The responsibilities are dependent on the assigned Member’s or Senator’s office. You will have the opportunity to work on building liaisons with other offices, completing research and policy analysis, learning social media and more.

Meetings

There will be scheduled meetings with Members, Senators, the Philippines Embassy, and other vital members of the Philippine community of Ottawa. The interns will meet to review, delegate, and update tasks to facilitate the planning of the Philippine Independence Day on the Hill.

Philippine Independence Day & Filipino Heritage Month

Interns will assist in the planning of Philippine Independence Day and Filipino Heritage Month celebrations before and on the day of the events. All interns will have the opportunity to join the festivities of Independence Day and FHM including the annual raising of the flag on the Parliament Hill. In 2018, June was designated Filipino Heritage Month in Canada through the leadership of MP Salma Zahid. Filipino Heritage Month is unique to the Philippine diaspora in Canada which serves to honor the historical roots of Filipino Canadians, and celebrate the enormous contributions and legacy of the Filipino community in Canada and to empower Filipino-Canadians as they continue to make their own history in Canada now and in the future.
